Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism, Iryn Omorogiuwa Esq., stated this in a goodwill message to mark the 111th anniversary of the Restoration of Benin Monarchy held in Benin City. The Ministry of Arts, Culture & Tourism which partnered with the organisers, United Kingdom of Great Benin Empire (UKGBE) a social cultural organisation, commended the group for the initiative to commemorate the Restoration of Benin Monarchy. The partnership, according to Omorogiuwa Esq, whose message was delivered by the spokesperson for the Ministry, Osaretin ERO, highlights the Governor Okpebholo's administration to leverage on the State's rich heritage to promote cultural tourism in the State. The occasion which held at the Holy Aruosa Cathedral grounds afforded individuals and cultural enthusiasts to express their profound joy in the long-aged historical development that shaped Benin kingdom into global reckoning. Welcoming guests to Holy Aruosa, the Ohen Osa, Igbinoghodua Edebiri, said Benin Kingdom under the leadership of HRM Oba Ewuare II remained a majestic nation with a sense of beauty and hospitable people who respect and honour their rich cultural heritage. In a keynote address, nonagenarian writer, historian and broadcaster, Chief Osayomwanbo Osemwegie ERO, the Edobayokhae of Benin, described the event of 1897 and 1914 as not only an intrusion and violation of cultural rights of Benin people but a miscarriage of justice by the colonialists and some Benin collaborators, but a profound moment that paved way for a ray of hope and renewal in the kingdom. The Coordinator-General of the United Kingdom of Great Benin Empire, Prince Evangelist Jessy Osemwengie Isibor expressed gratitude to His Royal Majesty, Oba Ewuare II for his steadfast leadership in Benin kingdom. Evangelist Isibor said the United Kingdom of Great Benin Empire is on a mission to bring about a cultural renaissance that will unite Benin descendants from various kingdoms where the sceptres of authority (ada and eben) are ceremoniously used across the country. According to Isibor, the organisation's vision is pivotal to the sustenance and growth of the Benin Kingdom and its efforts aim to recalibrate the Great Benin Empire. Descendants of Benin kingdom from various kingdoms, including Onicha-Olona, Aniocha North in Delta State and Ikwere in Rivers State, attended the commemorative event marked by emotional expressions of their deep-rooted connection to the Benin kingdom.
